You need to agree the following requirements.

  • WordPress 4.0 or higher.
  • PHP 5.6 or higher.
  • MySQL 5 or higher.
  • Memory Limit 128M or higher.

Below is a list of items you should ensure your host can comply with. We recommend using A2 Hosting or Blue Host for all your hosting needs.

  1. Check to ensure that your web host has the minimum requirements to run WordPress.
  2. Always make sure they are running the latest version of WordPress.
  3. You can download the latest release of WordPress from official WordPress website.
  4. Always create secure passwords for FTP and Database.
Recommended PHP Configuration Limits

Many issues are all related to low PHP configuration limits. The solution is to increase the PHP limits. You can do this on your own or contact your web host and ask them to increase those limits to a minimum as follows:

  • max_execution_time 600
  • memory_limit 128M
  • max_input_vars 2000
  • post_max_size 32M
  • upload_max_filesize 32M

    Before Update
    1. We recommend you have a current backup of your site including wp-content folder, wp-config.php file and .htaccess file and a copy of wordpress database. If you are not familiar with how to do this, you can use several plugins such as UpDraft Plus and WordPress Backup Buddy. And you should backup porto theme options in Appearance > Theme Options > Import / Export.
    2. You should completely remove all previous porto theme folder.
    3. You shouldn’t rename porto theme folder.
    4. You should reset browser cache, server cache and plugin cache.
    5. You should update required and recommended plugins.

    One Click Update Theme

In porto 4.6 new update method was added. This will display update notification when new version is released. You can update porto theme under Dashboard > Updates using wordpress standard update method.

    – Under Dashboard > Updates

    Theme Update Method

    – Under Appearance > Themes

    Theme Update Method

    Traditional Update Theme

This method does require more steps and manual work. First you need to manually download the new theme package from your Themeforest account. Once you have the new theme package, you can choose to upload the theme via WordPress or via FTP. Please see the information below for how to download new files, and install it via WP or via FTP.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD NEW THEME FILES FROM THEMEFOREST

Step 1 – Log into your Themeforest account and navigate to your downloads tab. Find the “Porto” theme purchase.
Step 2 – Click the “download” button next to it and choose to download the “Installable WordPress Theme” which is just the WordPress file, or choose the “Main Files” which is the entire package that contains everything.
Step 3 – Then you need to decide if you want to install the update via FTP or via WordPress. Directions for both methods are below.

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR THEME VIA FTP

Step 1 – Go to “wp-content > themes” location and backup your “porto” theme folder by saving it to your computer, or you can choose to simply delete it. Your content will not be lost.
Step 2 – Retrieve the “porto.zip” file from your new Themeforest download and extract the file to get the “porto” theme folder.
Step 3 – Then simply drag and drop the new “porto” theme folder into “wp-content > themes” location. Choose to “Replace” the current one if you did not delete it.
Step 4 – Lastly, update the included plugins. You will see a notification message letting you know the plugins have a new version and need to be updated. You should update the plugins. You can see Update Plugin for more details.
Step 5 – Please go Appearance > Theme Options on admin sidebar and click again “Save Changes” button.

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR THEME VIA WORDPRESS

Step 1 – You need to deactivate the current “porto” theme in the “Appearance > Themes” section by simply activating a different theme. Once you activate a different theme, you can delete the porto theme. Don’t worry, your content will not be lost.
Step 2 – Retrieve the “porto.zip” file from your new Themeforest download. If you downloaded the “Main Files” from Themeforest, then you need to unzip the archive file you received, the porto.zip will be inside of it.
Step 3 – Then simply upload the “porto.zip” file in the “Appearance > Themes” section. Click on the “Install Themes” tab at the top and choose to upload the zip file.
Step 4 – Once it uploads, choose to activate the theme.
Step 5 – Lastly, update the included plugins. You will see a notification message letting you know the plugins have a new version and need to be updated. You should update the plugins. You can see Update Plugin for more details.
Step 6 – Please go Appearance > Theme Options on admin sidebar and click again “Save Changes” button.

    Using Envato Market WordPress Plugin

The Envato Market plugin lets you view your ThemeForest purchases within the WordPress dashboard and select whether or not to receive updates.

HOW TO USE ENVATO MARKET PLUGIN

Please check this url to know how to use Envato Market plugin.

After update, please go Porto > Theme Options on admin sidebar and click again “Save Changes” button.

    – Update Premium Plugins

Porto theme provides two premium plugins: Visual Composer Page Builder and Revolution Slider.

You can update these plugins through setup wizard or Appearance > Install Plugins page.

    Plugin update method

    – Update Other Plugins

Like WordPress itself, you can update plugins with just one click. To do that, go to the ‘Updates’ section of your administration panel.

If there are some plugins that need to be updated, they will appear here. Below part shows you if a new version of WordPress is available or not.

To update your plugins, select them and click on the ‘Update Plugins’ button.

For plugins, you will be led to another page which will inform you about the progress of the update, just as it does with the WordPress update.

Note that for plugins, another section will also allow you to update in one click: the ‘Installed Plugins’ section in the Dashboard. If a plugin can be updated, a message will appear right below it, with a link to update it automatically. You can even select all of your plugins and choose bulk update at the bottom of plugins list.

     Important!

We embedded visual composer, revolution slider and porto functionality plugins. If you couldn’t update these plugins, you should update manually these plugins.

    1. Please go Plugins.
    2. Select and deactivate these plugins.
    3. Select and delete these plugins.
    4. Please go Appearance > Install Plugins.
    5. Select and install these plugins.
    6. Select and activate these plugins.

    General Information

If you are new to translating WordPress, you’re in the right place! In general, internationalization and localization (commonly abbreviated as i18n and l10n respectively) are terms used to describe the effort to make WordPress available in languages other than English for people from different locales. The actual localization is done using the GNU gettext framework, which is used by WordPress itself including the themes and plugins.
In order to make WordPress recognize the language to which you want to translate the core WordPress, the theme or the plugins, you have to define the language within the wp-config.php file or change a setting within the dashboard. The process is dependent on the WordPress version and is described below:

You can see wordpress localization documentation for more details.

Method 1: Storing Inside The Theme and Plugin Folder

This is is the traditional method, and the method most of our users use. To locate the Languages folder, follow this path:
    wp-content/themes/porto/languages
    wp-content/plugins/porto-functionality/languages

Despite this being the most popular, this method has one downside. Whenever users update the theme and the plugin, the whole Theme folder and Plugin Folder are replaced with a new and updated folder, which in turn overwrites their translation files.

If you choose to store your language files using this method, remember that the file name represents specific language. For example, if the language files are in the Deutsch language, the file names would be de_DE.mo and de_DE.po.

You can translate default po file with POEdit tool. You can see here for more details.

IMPORTANT NOTE – If you choose to use this method, don’t forget to backup files you don’t want to lose before updating Porto.
Method 2: Use WPML with Porto

WPML is the most popular plugin for multi language support, Porto is fully compatible with WPML. Below you will find documentation our team created for using WPML plugin with Porto. If you’ve purchased WPML and have any questions or issues, please check the links below.
